Weather in The Turks & Caicos

Almost every weather report that you will find for the Turks & Caicos will say there is a strong chance of rain or thunderstorms everyday.  This in fact is not true!  We are in a very rare climate zone here called a "Dry Tropical Rain Forest".  The emphasis is on "dry" as the majority of the natural vegetation is scrub brush and cactus which does not thrive in rain.  There are usually tons of clouds - some of which are dark and produce rain showers - but they mostly sit off to the north of Providenciales and provide little rain on the island.

So far in 2008, we have not had a very rainy season. However, we did have 2 major hurricanes in one week!  Hurricane Hanna and then Ike came pounding through in September. We were very lucky here on the island of Provo, to suffer little damage to land and reef.

The month of May 2007 was one of the rainiest season on record.  While it did not affected the diving as much as the boat rides to the dive sites, the plants and trees were very happy!

The air temperatures you'll find in the weather forecasts are typically correct.  There is also a tropical breeze that keeps the temperature feeling cooler and refreshing.  The water temperature in the summer months is around 85 degrees Fahrenheit and around 74 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter time.  If you'd like additional information about the weather, feel free to contact us at:  info@provoturtledivers.com

Current weather for diving as of December 12th, 2008 -  Water temp:  78 degrees Fahrenheit or 25.5 degrees Celsius- Full  3mm wetsuits are recommended for this time of the year.  Some of our divers are wearing shorties.
