 Nurse
Shark |
NW Point -
Coral Stairway & Thunderdome "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Coral Stairway -
The Stairway is a wide depression in the well with plate coral
that steps down quickly to over 100ft, then drops off into the
blue. Heading south the wall is composed of buttresses and deep
narrow cracks that shelter all kinds of life. A hawksbill
turtle, a reef shark and a spotted morray were the cool finds on
this dive! Dive #2
Thunderdome -
Looking through
the colapsed sections of the dome, we saw a school of spotted
goat fish, gray and mutton snappers and a couple of barracuda.
At the end of the dive there was a nice nurse shark resting
under a coral ledge. |

Reef Octopus |
West Caicos-
Elephant Ear Canyon & Sandbore Channel - Tons of Sponge
"Chucks Honey" |
|
Dive #1 Elephant Ear Canyon -
Another beautiful day with very little wind and scattered
clouds. Our first stop underwater was the canyon where an
eleven foot elephant ear sponge used to reside until it
mysteriously disappeared. Under the boat, hundreds of
garden eels covered the sand like a green carpet. Highlights of
the dive included 3 spotted eagle rays, a reef shark,
Dive #2
Tons of Sponge -
Capt Dave's
favorite site! This steep then sloping wall is home to pretty
much any sponge you can imagine in the Caribbean. The constant
nutrient flow off the shallow banks, brings in pelagics to feed.
More spotted eagle rays were seen and an octopus spotted Capt
Dave before he saw it and blew an ink cloud in his face! He then
scuttled off under a coral head where he could rest after his
frightful scare! |

Hawksbill Turtle |
NW Point -
Amphitheatre & Two Step "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Amphitheatre -
The wall drops vertically to an amphitheater formation that is
undercut 10-15 feet to a sandy bottom in 90 feet. In front of
the amphitheater is a buttress with some beautiful examples of
plate corals. A hawksbill turtle almost ran the group of divers
over - instead he went right through the middle of the divers. A
reef shark also swam by pretty close - a great thrill! Dive #2
Two Step -
The garden eels
today here were all closely living together giving the sand a
"moving" appearance - they are not so close together usually.
A huge porcupine fish and an arrow crab were some cool things to
look at. |

Arrow Crab |
Grace Bay -
Grouper Hole & Crocodile - "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Grouper Hole -
The mooring is by a deep narrow crevice, the Grouper Hole, with
a large coral head in the middle of a sand chute that leads
divers to a gently sloping wall that plateaus at 90 to 100 feet.
We were greeted by a huge nurseshark at the beginning of the
dive and then saw a ton of little things - an arrow crab and
banded coral shrimp were very active today! Dive #2
Crocodile -
A perfect day for
the bay...ahhh.... summer... as soon as we jumped in a hawksbill
turtle settled into the coral for a rest. He patiently posed for
a photoshoot then off he went! A few minutes later a
smaller and mellow turtle swam by checking us out - more photo
opportunities! Big caribbean spiney lobsters and a saddle blenny
were also seen. |

Goldentail Moray |
NW Point -
The Crack & Eel Garden "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 The Crack -
The plate coral here is quite cool - there is a wide crevasse
('the crack") that brings you out on the wall around 75 feet
right above a very large clump of black coral. A reef shark and
a turtle swam by us while down on the wall - great dive! Dive #2
Eel Garden -
A great vertical wall leads you to a wide bay. Look down
onto a huge sand patch in 130+ ft, there are often sharks
cruising there - but not today. We swam back to the boat
by way of the very large sand patch that is home to thousands of
garden eels and feeding stingrays and a little goldentail moray. |

School of
Horse-eyed Jacks |
Grace Bay -
Aquarium West & Graceland - "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Aquarium West -
This fishbowl like dive lived up to its name - tons of fish
everywhere! Schools of Atlantic spade fish, horse eyed
jacks, and chubs. Spiny and spotted lobsters waved their
antennas at us while we looked at hamlets. Dive #2
Graceland -Our
second dive of the day would not have been complete without
seeing "Lisa Marie" a 3ft great barracuda! Unfortunately
"Elvis" a 5 ft barracuda has left the building! We saw
tons of lobster and a rare find.... a one inch sized channel
clinging crab - the smallest we've ever seen! They grow to be
around 1 foot or 12 times bigger than what we saw today! A nice
finish to an awesome day underwater! |

Fingerprint
Cyphoma |
Grace Bay -
Cathedral & Catacombs - "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Cathedral -
Today was one of those days that proves to those that say they
only dive from the southside of the island, don't know what they
are talking about. What a truly wonderful dive! Divers were
blessed with a nurse shark encounter then a reef shark and
lastly with a baby turtle that was still struggling with basic
swimming 101 - what a treat! Dive #2
Catacombs -
With all the activity on the first dive, divers were anxious to
get right back in for more encounters. A somewhat rare
fingerprint cyphoma (very much like a flamingo tongue) stole the
show! |

Broad Band Moray |
NW Point - Coral
Stairway & West Caicos - Boat Cove
"Honey" |
|
Dive #1 Coral Stairway -
The dive started out with a graceful eagleray and just got
better and better! A spotted lobster, tons of different
kinds of blennies, a goldentail moray and 2 spotted morays made
this an exciting dive. Dive #2
Boat Cove -
Wow! There were about 20 southern stingrays all milling about
on this dive! Oscar the grouch, a broad banded eel lives at this
site and we located him. There were 2 sharks at the end of
the dive - what a great second dive. |
Aug 23,

Hawksbill Turtle |
Grace Bay -
Piranha Cove & Graceland "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Piranha Cove -
A large hawksbill turtle appeared at the beginning of the dive
and was in no hurry to leave. The groupers were quite
large today and seemed to be everywhere - what a great first
dive! Dive #2
Graceland -
The mini wall here is one of the best places to see tons of
small critters like the yellow tail damsel fish with it's
electric blue spots. Like the first dive, there was a
hawksbill turtle here that hung out with the divers. |

Indigo Hamlet |
NW Point -
The Crack & Eel Garden "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 The Crack -
The weather has been so fabulous that once again we find
ourselves at NW Point. The "Crack" is never a bad dive -
starting with a shark right under the boat down to all the
wonderful blennies and anemone shrimp and red banded lobsters seen
here today. Dive #2
Eel Garden -
The little wiggles of the garden eels can't help but make
you wonder how they know where their hole is, just in time to
duck down as you swim by. More small critters and a nice indigo
hamlet made this a wonderful second dive of the day. |

Spotted Moray |
NW Point -
Ampitheatre
&
Shark Hotel - "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Amphitheatre -
We were greeted by a pod of dolphins who unfortunately
disappeared by the time we got in for the dive. Nonetheless it
was a fantastic dive slender file fish, a bunch of blennies and
schooling jacks in the "amphitheatre" where they commonly are -
today was no exception. Dive #2
Shark Hotel -
One of customers favorite sites, the wonderful coral and wall
formations are homes for many critters. Today no sharks swam by,
but it was a fantastic dive with a spotted moray, a southern
stingray, squid and tons of fish! |

Healthy Coral |
NW Point -
Eagles Nest
& Chimney - "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Eagles Nest -
This site is right next to Two Step and sports a wonderful wall where eagle rays love to cruise by. Only one was spotted today, as well as a caribbean reef shark. The coral along this dive is very colorful and healthy. Dive #2
Chimney -
The "chimney" like chute at this dive site exits deep along the wall - a little too deep for dive #2, so the divers stayed along the top. The dive followed the sheer vertical walls covered with tube and barrel sponges. Schooling fish, a green and a spotted moray were the highlights of this dive. |

Blue Headed Wrasse |
NW Point -
Black
Coral Forest & Grace Bay - Piranha Cove |
|
Dive #1 Black Coral Forest -
This is one of our customers favorite sites as there is so much black coral and at unusually shallow depths of 50-60 feet. There is no harvesting of it here, so that is why it is so healthy! Dive #2 Piranha Cove -
This site is named after the Provo Piranhas (yellow tail
snappers) that school here along with the blue headed wrasse.
The mini wall juts out to give the impression that you've just
done a long dive - in fact the boat sits right over the buttress
above the divers. A juvenile yellow tail damsel fish with
it's electric blue spots was the cool find of the day. |

Diver at Coral
Stairway |
NW Point -
Coral
Stairway & Grace Bay - Boneyard "Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Coral Stairway -
The coral formations that give this site its name, are home to a
ton of lobsters - today the spiny lobsters were out and about
and there was a giant channel clinging crab. Dive #2
Boneyard -
The dead staghorn coral that once was everywhere giving this
site it's name, "Boneyard", has started rejuvenating which is
always a good thing to see. Red banded cleaner shrimp were
found amongst the coral. Indigo hamlets were also on this dive
with their beautiful blue coloring darting around the reef.
A very good dive! |

Wire Coral Shrimp

Slender File Fish |
NWPoint -
Two Step & Black Coral Forest "Chucks Honey" |
|
Dive #1 Two Step Wall -
This site is always beautiful as a first or second dive and
provides the best chance for divers to see eagle rays. We
didn't see any today but we did see a small reef shark, a
southern stingray and a peacock flounder to keep the divers
entertained. Dive #2
Black Coral Forest -
Captain "D" shot macro at one of his favorite "critter
dives". He found arrow blennies, decorator crabs, wire
coral shrimp and several slender file fish. For fans of
the "big stuff" a huge nurseshark made an appearance and a
hawksbill turtle had close encounters with divers and snorkelers. |
|
NW Point -
Grand
Canyon & Eel Garden "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Grand Canyon -
One of the prettiest dives as far as coral formations, this site
is home to many small or juvenile critters. Lisa, one of
the divemasters, found a beautiful juvenile queen angel fish. Dive #2
Eel Garden -
This site has a huge sand patch that is home to a million
garden eels, their snake-like bodies can be seen from pretty
far away - but when divers get close they quickly back down, into
their holes in the sand and peek just their little eyes back out
at you. On the trip home, there was a huge loggerhead
turtle that gave off a great surface show for all on the boat. |

Silversides at The
Crack

Dwarf Blenny |
NW Point -
Amphitheatre & The Crack "Chucks Honey" |
|
Dive #1 Amphitheatre -
The natural coral formations in the shape of an amphitheatre is
always a great dive. A big southern stingray cruised by the
drop-off to start the dive off. A lot of lovely black coral and
the red banded lobsters hiding inside the amphitheatre make this a memorable dive for sure! Dive #2
The Crack -
A lovely reef shark swam right up to the first group of
divers to showing off his massive 5 foot size! A southern
stingray lay buried in the sand just before the crack. A
spotted moray stuck his head out to say hi as the divers swam
by. |
|
NW Point -
Grand
Canyon & Thunderdome "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Grand Canyon -
Lobsters everywhere! The plate corals that give this dive site
it's name, were alive with reef fish with cleaning stations
every so often. Quite a wonderful dive with no current.
Dive #2 The Thunderdome -
This leftover dome from a French Television show,
collapsed when Hurricane Francis blew by in 2004. But the
blennies have made their homes on all the bars that are covered
with soft corals. Their little orange eyes kept us in
their sights during our dive. |

Reef Shark
|
Grace Bay -
Aquarium & Graceland "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Aquarium -
What a fabulous
dive! Fish were everywhere and true to the name of the site,
this was an "aquarium" experience. Schools of atlantic spade
fish, horse-eyed jacks, grunts, creoles and more - too many to
name. Dive #2 Graceland -
The 2nd dive today was a little uneventful compared to the first
dive, but still a great dive. A school of squid, a reef
shark, and flamingo tongues were the great things to see. |

Secretary Blenny |
NW Point - Shark
Hotel & Eel Garden "Chucks Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Shark Hotel -
Descending down from the boat to this wonderful dive is always a
treat. A massive channel clinging crab and a huge spotted
lobster were the first delights seen. They cool coral
formations of the "hotel" are home to many critters. A
hawksbill turtle showed up for the end of a very nice dive.
Dive #2 Eel Garden -
This was a "rare" sightings dive - red banded lobster, wire
coral shrimp, red banded cleaner shrimp were everywhere! The
mooring block is home to many blennies for those of you that
like to find the small critters. |

Juvenile Spotted
Drum |
Pine Cay - Eagle
Ray Pass & Grace Bay - Catacombs "Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Eagle Ray Pass -
This big sand-bowl site is usually home to a ton of eagle rays.
With all the sightings yesterday, there were high hopes in
repeating the encounter - but not a single eagle ray was to be
seen. It was however, a very nice dive.
Dive #2 Catacombs -
This wonderful dive site is home to all the small critters -
finger print cyphomas, blennies, and cleaner shrimps were
everywhere! |
|

Eagle Rays |
Pine Cay -
Football Field & Grace Bay - Cathedral "Mate" |
|
Dive #1 Football Field -
If you were lucky
enough to be on this dive today - and you love eagle rays - then
you would have had the time of your life. There were more eagle
rays than you could count! There were groupings of 3, 5 and 6.
Captain Murray had the double treat of an eagle ray show as 3 of
them danced around for the longest time. Definitely a dive to
remember!
Dive #2 Cathedral -
After the first dive of the day, this was a little
anti-climatic. Nonetheless it was a fabulous dive! Tons of fish
and the mini-wall of the "cathedral" always make for a relaxing
and enjoyable dive. |
